Week #2, September 12, 2013: Full Speed Ahead

I am beginning to think Josh taught Matt a few Master Jedi tricks over the summer. Last week Matt gave me an extensive list of projects from which to choose. After careful consideration, I chose one, to which Matt replied, "Wouldn't you rather do this one"? I then chose another but Matt, while pointing to the same project said, "But this one sounds really interesting"! So the jury was out for the week and I when Matt and I reconvened, I indicated that I had it down between X and Y projects, and Matt fell back to the original project he had suggested. So, without further ado... RHIZOBIA AND AGROBACTERA IT IS!

Of course I write this all in jest because I told Matt that I wanted to be exposed to something new and learn as many processes I could. Matt told me that while I could still incorporate my favorite Kirby-Bauer method (which I used last semester), that I would have a chance to learn many new procedures. He even said that it was a challenging enough project that we could work on it for two semesters.

So, it's back to the beginning and what is always the first step? Research! I can barely pronounce these words let alone know what to do with them but the same could be said about Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, both of which roll right off my tongue. I am really excited about this and today Matt and I took a trip to the Greenhouse, gathered some supplies and tomorrow I will be planting seeds. What Matt doesn't know is that <<whispering>>, I have one of the greenest thumbs in the industry.

Thank you Matt for much to learn I still have...

Are those Black Eyed Peas? Of course, I have updated the contents of my secret box and it remains in an undisclosed location; but "I gotta feeling... that tonight's gonna be a good night, whohoo". Stay tuned!
